About CANSO

CANSO – the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation – is the global voice of Air Traffic Management. Founded in 1996, it represents the interests of the Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) worldwide.

CANSO Members support over 85% of world air traffic. Members share information and develop new policies, with the ultimate aim of improving air navigation services on the ground and in the air. CANSO represents its Members' views in major regulatory and industry forums, including at ICAO, where it has official Observer Status.

Full membership is open to all Air Navigation Service Providers regardless of legal status. This includes ANSPs who are integrated within government structures and departments.

Associate Membership of CANSO is drawn from a wide range of companies and organisations across the entire aviation industry who are involved with the delivery of air traffic services. Membership offers them the chance to network both formally and informally with clients, and key decision makers across the aviation industry. Associate Members are also encouraged to lend their expertise to CANSO's work programmes and help it continue to improve the delivery of air navigation services.

Vision

To be the recognised leader in transforming global Air Traffic Management performance.

Mission

To be the global voice of Air Traffic Management in the transformation of the aviation system, creating value for Members and our stakeholders. CANSO's mission is achieved through CANSO's strategic plan for the transformation of global ATM performance – Vision 2020.

About CANSO Africa Region

The CANSO Africa Region was established in 2012. Its vision is to achieve safe, seamless and harmonised airspace across Africa.

CANSO's goal in Africa is to help Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) provide services that are: universally safe; technically interoperable; procedurally harmonised; efficient and affordable.

Africa poses many challenges for the Air Traffic Management (ATM) industry and there is wide variation among CANSO Members with regard to levels of traffic density, traffic complexity and ATM infrastructure. CANSO helps its Members by providing a platform of collaboration across Africa and by sharing information, best practice and standards of excellence.

It also provides training courses and seminars on key issues such as safety and the implementation of ICAO's Aviation System Block Upgrades (ASBUs). Partnership is critical to the success of CANSO's work in Africa and it works jointly with ICAO, States and the air transport industry to improve aviation in Africa.
